It was the beginning of the peak of the pink salmon run, the canneries were plugged; we were put on a 10,000 pound-a-day limit.  We were ordered to take a day off; fortunately, the weather of Kodiak coincided with our little vacation...I went for a little nature hike around Bumble Bay. I looked back at where we were anchored, (before I disappeared over the ridge) and snapped this...

The three largest vessels, anchored outside of the others are tenders; they transport the fish we catch to the canneries & sell us groceries and fuel, and support us in other valuable ways; most of them pack at least 100,000 pounds of fish, have refrigerated fish holds.  Many are 100 feet long or more and fish for other species of fish (crab, halibut, cod, etc.) when not tendering.
