My Drawings
All photos taken by me, ( except for the one of the church, above) scanned from disposable 35 mm, or taken with my Minolta DimageV digital camera, or my JVC digital video camera.

My brother Sven, a friend and I were deer and bear hunting, in 1989, at the south end of Kodiak, when I took this, overlooking our camp, on the little strip of land between the lagoon and the bay. ("x" marks just above the tent)

I'm a professional fisherman (I'm the cook and corkman with the purse seiner I fish with curreently, in the summer) for salmon and herring seining, in Prince William Sound, Kamishak Bay, Kodiak, and Togiak; have been since '84; I used to gillnet salmon on drift boats and set nets Bristol Bay and Cook Inlet; I've longlined for Halibut and Pacific Cod and Black Cod, pot fished for Tanner Crab and Pacific (also called gray cod) Cod in Kodiak and the Gulf of Alaska, which are winter fisheries, a whole different deal altogether. I've also dug clams professionally, Littleneck Steamers and Razor Clams.

From 1995 until last year I've fished on the (mighty and fearless) thirty-eight foot F/V Diana C., owned and skippered by Dan McLean. I fished with him also from 1985 'till 1989, on the twenty-eight-foot F/V Inseiner, and the F/V Diana C. He bough a fifty-three-foot fishing boat, new to us, the F/V Miss Danica, last spring, just before salmon season...We jumped through ourselves to get it ready in timne, but we still managed to catch a million-and-quarter pounds of pink salmon, this last season, worth about $12,000, to me.

The last five years have been the best since the Exxon oil spill; the salmon prices have never recovered, ( We got $.08 a pound, this year, with a new market; they were $.85 in 1989!) even though the fish have; we must catch more fish to make the same money, which we are able to do, now; the Miss Danica holds 66,000 pounds of humpies; we tested her! She has Refrigerated Sea Water in the fish hold; no canneries would buy humpies this year from a boat wthout RSW, after July.

Dan is a superior fisherman; we fish smart and hard...the hours would be considered excessive by most people, but it's worth it in the fall, usually....I get paid to live, for three months, in a place that many people pay thousands just to glimpse; though it's true that I may not always have time to fully appreciate all the wonders of the Rock (the other Emerald Isle),while we're working, I try to keep my cameras ready!
